  • Chinses government and citizens attacked both U.S. government and ByteDance. The Communist Party accused the force sale of “hunting and looting” of TikTok. Chinese social users accused ByteDance of ceasing to fight with U.S. Government.
  • Google announced to buy 6.6% stake in home security companyADT for $450 million. ADT will assure the installation and maintenance of Google’s Nest line of home security devices. Also, Google will promote a trio of new Pixel smartphones.
  • Levi’s taking new actions to fight with coronavirus: same-day delivery and new virtual concierge program to let customers to have one-on-one chat with a store associate.
  • Zoom will suspend direct sales in mainland China and only sell through partners, amid scrutiny over its ties to the country.
  • Snapchat added a new music-powered feature (allow users to add music to their pictures) to take on TikTok.

  • NYT’s digital revenue ($189 million) exceeds print revenue ($175 million) for Q2 for the first time in magazine’s history.
  • Democrats launch probe into $765M Kodak loan. The Securities and Exchange Commission is also investigating the circumstances around this loan. Both parties alleged that there were unusual trading activities before the deal was made public.
  • Blackstone announced that it was buying a majority stake in the direct-to-consumer genetics company Ancestry from its former equity holders for $4.7 billion.

  • Nearly 1.2 million laid-off Americans applied for state unemployment benefits last week, evidence that the coronavirus keeps forcing companies to slash jobs just as a critical $600 weekly federal jobless payment has expired. And today, the number of jobless claims declined by 249,000 from the previous week, after rising for two straight weeks, and it was the lowest total since mid-March.
  • Nintendo had its best quarter since 2008. Its profit surged 428% yearly thanks to Animal Crossing converts who bought almost 6 million Switch consoles.
